Papadopulos shot the first spring win
The Boleslav players gained the first spring win on an uneven Kladno pitch that was not in favour of combination performance. The head-coach Pavel Hapal sent a basic line-up onto the pitch without dramatic changes when compared with the preliminary four league matches that his team did not manage to win. The left fullback Tomáš Hrdlička after an injury and Václav Procházka in the position of a defensive midfielder appeared for the first time in the basic squad. Papadopulos decided a nervous match with the only goal when he headed a centre pass by Kalina, coincidentally a former Kladno player, into the net.
An astounding number of mistakes in combinations degraded a league match to football of poor quality. All players regardless of their shirt colour made mistakes to the extent that it was obvious to an objective observer that the untidy performance resulted in particular from the poor pitch. The ball jumped unpredictably after each pass, aimed at the boots of opponent players and escaped from the reach of the recipients.
Dangerous little attacks alternated in front of both goals from the beginning. Beneš diverted a centre pass by Mendy to Pecka at the end of the first quarter and, on the other side, the Kladno team took a free kick almost from a corner flag after a foul committed by Janíček and Bartoš headed the ball weakly to Miller.
The quality of the match did not improve in the second half. However, the Boleslav players were apparently more active in offensive. In the 46th minute, Procházka took a nice pass by Kalina behind the Kladno defence, but he missed the right moment for shooting or passing. A touched shot by Klinka forced Miller to stretch himself to the post in the 55th minute and, in the 57th minute, Boleslav survived the biggest scoring chance of the Kladno team. Szabo centre-passed and the ball touched the top side of the crossbar of Miller’s goal after a header by Hajník.
You do not score – you concede. An often-repeated true football statement confirmed five minutes after Hajník’s chance. Kalina centre-passed from the right-hand side line and, just in time, Papadopulos jumped into the Kladno goal area higher than defending Beneš and Bartoš in the 62nd minute. The Boleslav forward headed precisely in the uncovered area alongside the left hand of the helpless goalkeeper – 0:1.
Šilhán ran alone against the Boleslav goal after a pass by Beneš in the 84th minute, but Miller saved his clean sheet with a courageous fall under the legs of the Kladno marksman. And the Boleslav players defended their tight lead at the very end.
