Two goals by Boleslav players sufficed for a point only

Redakce

The Boleslav team was the front-runner in the match against the last team in the league standings that had not managed to win any of its five preceding matches and had the leakiest defence of all participants in the Gambrinus League with eleven goals conceded. The differences in the team’s performances were apparent during the first half. The Boleslav players were surer in their combinations and in most of the face to face duels. They took the lead deservedly, however, they robbed themselves of three points with an own goal and imprecise defensive play in the second half. They did not gain a point but lost two in České Budějovice.

The ex-Boleslav forward Tomáš Sedláček was the most dangerous player for Miller from the České Budějovice team. Mendy and Řezníček through their effort on the right-hand wing tested the Budějovice defence most.

Benát pushed through in front of a hesitating Mach in the 32nd minute and ran against Miller alone; however, the Boleslav goalkeeper rushed out of his goal and was quicker to the ball on the penalty area line than the sprinting Budějovice player.

Mladá Boleslav took two corner kicks in quick succession during a three minute period. The defence of Budějovice deflected the first one as a result of the disoriented Žižka who nearly rebounded a centred pass by Poláček into his own goal however Mendy’s head connected with the second one taken by Poláček and steered it into the back of the Kucera’s net – 0:1.

The Budějovice players started the second half with vigour and rushed towards the penalty area of Mladá Boleslav. Janíček was very busy as was Benát but the defence managed to keep them in check. Miller was kept warm by long distance shots from Šíma and Žižka.

A sharp centred pass by Benát flew across the goal area in front of the Boleslav goal where Svátek and Sedláček stretched for the ball in vain in the 56th minute. Benát repeated his effort two minutes later and even though his teammate Sedláček was short again, Kalina was running at full speed and kicked the ball into his own net – 1:1.

In spite of the fact that the Boleslav players more frequently controlled the ball and clearly showed a more physical superiority to their opponents towards the match’s conclusion their efforts suffered from their inaccuracy in the final stages and they did not manage to add the elusive second goal.
