Boleslav win decided in Brno before the break
The Boleslav players were successful in the first half. They dominated the midfield and Sylvestre and Rajnoch defeated the goalkeeper Bureš. The Brno players tried hard to score a goal with which they could get back in the match but the Boleslav defence, with the watchful goalkeeper Miller, resisted well after the break. The referee denied two goals to Došek for offside but on the other hand, he forgave a penalty for tripping by the Brno defender Dvorník against Opiela.
The Boleslav players started without fear but the Brno players were self-confidently aware of the fact that they did not experience defeat during the first three rounds. They conceded their unbeaten run to Boleslav in a similar fashion to last season when they conceded one goal more than this year.
Mendy and Poláček played a simple and effective combination in the 19th minute which was finished by a hard low drive from Sylvestre, across the goal width after a beautiful nutmeg between the legs of the goalkeeper – 0:1.
The Boleslav players dominated the midfield in the following period of the match but failed to capitalise and increase their lead due to frequent inaccuracies in front of goal.
A centred pass across goal by Poláček flew to Řezníček but the Brno defence only diverted the attack as far as Rajnoch who had enough time and space to prepare to shoot. He hit an excellent shot through the area and under the right-hand post and upright to the surprise of the goalkeeper Bureš – 0:2.
Pressure by the Brno players after the break was expected and it came. Head-coach Uličný sent the defender Trousil into a forward position and reduced the defensive line to three men. The Boleslav head-coach Hapal admitted after the match that his team was unable to cope with this new line-up. Moreover, he had to substitute the injured defender Hrdlička who was ruthlessly kicked by Došek.
Miller showed his extraordinary skills repeatedly during the last ten minutes. He saved a smashing shot by Trousil and just a moment later, he bravely saved a rebounded shot from his immediate vicinity before Kalina saved Mladá Boleslav goal mouth with a blocked clearance on the line. Miller spoiled another attack by the Brno players, running out to the edge of the penalty area and punching a centred pass by Polách with his fist. He then turned a smashing shot away from the top corner of his goal from Baláž for a corner kick three minutes before the end of the match.
