Papadopulos hit the upright, Kadlec scored the only goal
Careful football from both sides, crowned by tripping from Sparta’s Řepka, such was the picture of the first half. Sliding tackles from behind against Pecka and Papadopulos deserved a sending off; however Řepka ended the match with only one booking. The football quality and attractiveness of the visitor’s play grew in the second half, but the goal scored in the net behind Miller ensured Mladá Boleslav started the league season in a similar way to last year, losing 0:1, however, this was not against Viktoria Žižkov on our home pitch.
A header by Kučera was just cleared off Miller’s goal line in the 6th minute from the first corner kick taken by Sparta. Janíček later did well to prevent Berger from shooting, and shortly after Hušek directed a free kick taken by Berger on goal with his head but it did not surprise Miller. The Boleslav players also began to show their skills. Pecka rushed in with a scoring chance after a header by Papadopulos but Řepka marked him carefully.
Miller then saved an excellent scoring chance by Kolář who failed to defeat the Boleslav goalkeeper from only a few yards in the 25th minute. Three minutes later, Slepička got free on the edge of the penalty area but Miller saved his shot to the left-hand post. Poláček also failed to hit the target from the other side of the pitch.
Řepka then made a reckless slide tackle from behind as Pecka took a pass from Poláček on the halfway line in the 31st minute. Kadlec then unnecessarily and excessively fouled Boleslav’s Kalina but was only given an oral warning when he should have been sent off after being booked in the sixth minute for diving. Řepka then tripped Papadopulos in a similar fashion as Pecka without a booking shortly before the end of the first half.
Miller excellently saved a smashing shot by Matušovič at his right-hand post in the 57th minute. Papadopulos then hit his own player Kysela in the penalty area after an effort by Kysela making Sparta’s defensive task easier in the 60th minute. A shot by Slepička just missed Miller’s goal by centimetres in the 68th minute but a daisy cutter by Kadlec waved the Boleslav net as the ball went in by the left-hand post in the 69th minute – 1:0.
The Boleslav players attempt at a comeback began just after the kick-off: their attack resulting in a shot by Papadopulos crashing off the upright, the ball crossing the entire width of goal before it was cleared by the Sparta defenders. Nečas missed an excellent scoring chance in the 82nd minute when Kozáčik could only rebound his weak shot.
