FC Sevilla, the defending winner of the UEFA Cup is currently the best football club of the planet while FK Mladá Boleslav is the second best Czech club on the 95th position of the world ranking according to the International Federation of Football Historians and Statisticians. The leader of the first Czech league, AC Sparta Prague, is ranked by forty-two positions higher.

The International Federation of Football Historians and Statisticians (IFFHS) published the latest ranking of football clubs on Monday, December 4, 2006. Statisticians assess successfulness of individual clubs on the basis of the results achieved during the last twelve months. Three Italian clubs AC Milan, AS Roma and Inter Milan are just behind leading FC Sevilla and English FC Liverpool is ranked on the fifth position according to IFFHS. Rapid Bucharest, the opponent of Mladá Boleslav in the qualifying group of the UEFA Cup and a quarter-finalist of the UEFA Cup in the last year. Under impression of such information, the 1:1 tie of Mladá Boleslav on the pitch of Rapid seems to be an extraordinarily successful feat, however, who could see the match with his/her own eyes would certainly testify that the players of Mladá Boleslav were very close to getting a scalp of a club from the top world ten. The next rival of Mladá Boleslav in the European cup, Hapoel Tel Aviv, is ranked on the 78th position of the world standings. Comparison of the position of Mladá Boleslav with Turkish Galatasaray Istanbul is interesting. In summer, i.e. in time when Mladá Boleslav played against this club, it was ranked on the 144th position while Galatasaray on the 95th position. At present, the team of Mladá Boleslav is by two steps higher than the Turkish opponent that has won only once in a qualifying group of the Champions League. AC Sparta Prague on the 53rd position is best ranked Czech club and other three Czech clubs from the top of autumn Gambrinus League are lined up just before the end of the first hundred.
