Win was a target for both teams because neither of them enjoyed it in the basic group of the UEFA Cup before the third round. Rumanians tied twice, Czechs played only once and they lost. That is why both head-coaches promised attacking twister before the match. It was presented by the players of Mladá Boleslav in the first half while home Rapid players had more scoring chances after the break. However, both teams scored only once.

There were only five minutes to play before the end of the first half when Kulič sent the ball from a free kick for a common foul far from the goal and Rajnoch lifted it just before the fists of the Rumanian goalkeeper Coman so skilfully that it ended in the goal - 0:1.
Mladá Boleslav players managed to keep the tight lead till the break but they could be at least by three goals ahead if Kulič and Pecka would score from at least of a half of their chances. But Uhrin's boys paid dearly for it six minutes after the break. Miller rebounded the first sharp shop of a Bucharest player but he was already short for a smashing shot of Constantinu in the right-hand top corner - 1:1.
The players of Rapid rushed to the goal of Mladá Boleslav but its guardian Miller was always on the right place. He saved chances of Buga, Zicu, Grigore as well as Moldavan. The opponent players got the ball behind his back twice, however, from an offside position for the first time and after playing with hand for the second time which was noted by careful Austrian referee. Kulič and also Holub could decide the match on the other side in a hectic ending but Coman saved their shots.
