A Clear Pass to the Czech Cup Quarterfinals

Redakce

From the three matches scheduled for this fall, the easiest one was the one that decided which team was going to pass to the Quarter finals next spring. The duel with Hradec Králové, a Second league team, was certainly easier than the Third league Náchod team or the Letohrad form the division. A further disappointment came from poor attendance, as the number of spectators who witnessed the match with the leading team in the league did not by much exceed one thousand. Spectator attendance was larger in both preceding rounds in Náchod and Letohrad.

The Hradec team started the match fearlessly, but their attacks lacked dedication. The first sign of danger to the Hradec goal came as late as in the 7th minute, but Poláček's tall pass was too long for Pecka. Five minutes later, the score saw a change: Šmerda took possession of the ball on the halfway line, shot it to Matějovský who sent Poláček behind the Hradec defense line.
The pass received its final tackle in the goal area by Kulič - 0:1. The following Boleslav attack in the 14th minute gave birth to a corner kick after a pass by Matějovský. Poláček received and played the corner kick to air pass to Palát, who scored a piece by head while standing at the further pole - 0:2. Both goals combined lulled the Mladá Boleslav attention, which was deemed for punishment by Hradec. In 16th minute, a shot by Kaplan bounced off the horizontal back into the field. As the goalkeeper Kučera was lying on the turf and the defenders had forgotten to cover Chleboun, the Hradec stopper had an easy time to deliver the ball into the net by his forehead - 1:2. All activity seemed to ebb in the following minutes. The Mladá Boleslav were playing it safe and sound while the Hradec Králové were trying to reach behind the adversary's defense line by long shots. In 36th minute, Černý stormed at Kučera all by himself, avoided Rolek's slide, but he missed the goal by nearly four feet. On the other side of the pitch, after a pass from Matějovský, Pecka fired a strong shot at the Hradec goal, but the keeper, Lindr, had the ball under control even when landing on the ground. Four minutes later, the Mladá Boleslav managed to petrify the adversary's defense lines. The attacking swift combination sent a quick pass to Matějovský, who made a good use of the opportunity for a surface shot at the goal. Lindr the keeper only bowed his head - 1:3.
The second half was easy for the Mladá Boleslav to keep the action ticking without allowing the opposing team to engage in any threatening combinations. The exception being Rajnoch's wayward return kick in the 65th: Kučera sweated hard to keep the ball from within the posts; however, Mezlík from the other team nearly managed to push it in through a top corner of the goal. The same minute Poláček was unable to hit the net after a textbook example of rebound by Matějovský. Poláček was shooting from the goal area, though. Six minutes before the final whistle, after Rajnoch's hesitation and Brezinský's unlucky slide, Hradec entered the Boleslav goal area. However, Palát and his mighty return kick returned them back to reality. The match's last moments belonged to Vaculík, who replaced Pecka at the striker position. In the 88th minute he had a chance to settle a long pass from Poláček in the Hradec goal area: he lobed the ball over the sleepy-like moving goalie - 1:4.
