Boleslav scored four goals against Marseille and advances to next stage

Coach Uhrin's team has achieved its greatest success so far when Mladá Boleslav put stop to Olympique Marseille ambitions, and progressed to the next stage of the UEFA Cup. The match did not start well for the Czech team. Mladá Boleslav received a goal and since the fifteenth minute it had to work on closing a two-goal gap of its French opponent, whose players started the match with more confidence. Fortunately for Mladá Boleslav, the French ended the match embarrassed and chagrined by their failure.

In the 14th minute Ribery passed the ball from the left side to Nianga, who got round Rolek in the penalty area and passed the ball to Maolid who was waiting in the goal area and clinched the goal through an unprotected Miller's gap - 0:1. It might have got even worse after another thirty minutes but fortunately the swift-footed Niang missed. In the 33rd minute Ribery overshot a penalty kick and one minute later Mladá Boleslav equalized the score. In the 34th minute Poláček played a short corner kick and Pecka deflected Matějovský's center pass inside the goal posts - 1:1. At the end of the first half Mladá Boleslav became more active but could not change the score.

In the 56th minute Ismail hit an uncatcheable rocket shot and scored 1:2. At this moment, hardly anyone doubted that it would be the French who will progress to the next stage, as Mladá Boleslav needed three goals to win. This was why coach Uhrin sent Holub to do his bit. In the 62nd minute Ceasar cut down Kysela and Holub managed to use the penalty kick opportunity to score an equalizer - 2:2. Uneasiness spread through the field and the frequency of fouls increased. In the 76th minute French forwards overnumbered the Czech defense three to one, but Niang spoiled the opportunity by passing the ball off-side.

In the 83rd minute Rolka passed a long center to a penalty area to a waiting Holub, who managed to score to 3:2. The already fast-paced match suddenly gained a new dynamics. Mladá Boleslav began to push the ball into the penalty area with all its might, hoping to score the one goal that would bring the team to the second stage of the UEFA Cup. In the end, the effort met with success in the last minute of the normal playing time. Holub found Rajnoch who attempted clinching a header. Carasso managed a great safe, but unintentionally passed the ball to Sedláček, who successfully raised the score to 4:2. All Czech players, including the goalkeeper Miller, resided in the penalty area for the last goal of the game. During the four-minute extra time Mladá Boleslav succeeded in defending the victory despite finishing without Šmerda, who received two strict yellow cards over a period of one minute, when dueling for ball in Mladá Boleslav penalty area.
