Successful striker’s come back

Marek Kulič is the second best after Radim Holub in the Mladá Boleslav shirt as to the number of league matches played and goals scored. They are friends and when they came in Mladá Boleslav in the last year, they planned to play together as forwards and to score many goals. Kulič looked forward to preparing chances for his mate while Holub to approaching slowly and steadily to the wished-for one-hundred-goal milestone of the league strikes. However, Holub was set back by a heavy injury suffered during the last autumn. His cross ligament in an operated knee failed so that the player had to pass another surgery again.

"If he would had been fit, he would have got the crown of the best league striker", said Kulič about Holub after the end of the 2005/06 season and when Milan Ivana from Slovácko was honoured as the best domestic league striker for mere eleven goals. Kulič shared the second position together with Piták and Vlček from Slavia as all of them scored ten times. The second best striker from Mladá Boleslav, Pecka, scored nine goals and Holub added only five autumn goals in his statistics. He returned back after nine months both on the pitch and in the scorers' list. "I was very enthusiastic to play, the coach said me to go and to score, but what different should he say if he sends a forward on the pitch", described the player the last moments before substitution. It came off magnificently both for Uhrin and Holub. He was four minutes on the pitch and scored an important goal. Kysela threw ball from out, Ševinský prolonged the pass with his head in the penalty area and Holub was lurking in front of the goal. I do not score headers too frequently but there was no defender around me so that I had enough time to look. I tried to find the net and strike in the direction opposite to motion of the goalkeeper", he described the goal through which he brought about a turn in the score of the match against the team from Olomouc in the 72nd minute. "Holub has what is called sense for striking goals", praised his most experienced striker Uhrin. In spite of this complimentary statement, the coach did not nominated Holub even on the bench for the pre-qualification round match of the Champions League at European opening evening of Mladá Moleslav. I was a little bit disappointed", admitted Holub. "He was not in a good shape, he was tired and only the players in the groove can play and sit on the bench under the situation of current competition in our team", explained the coach his decision. Holub respects it. "Pecka with Kulič play very well in forward and I believe to get on the pitch more and more often as there are many matches ahead and the coach will certainly change the line-up, however, the most important thing is to win as a team."
