A header by Papadopulos was not enough
FK Mladá Boleslav - FK Baumit Jablonec 1:2 (0:1)
The opening match of the 2009 spring season was unsuccessful and became a bitter experience for the Boleslav team because of two goals conceded from the boots of the experienced Jablonec players Čížek and Lafata. The Boleslav players wasted the whole first half when they gave an unexpectedly average football performance. They moved up a gear only after the second goal was conceded but it was too late for them to close the gap. “We did not deserve any points for the first half,” said very disappointed head-coach Pavel Hapal.
The Boleslav players started the match against Jablonec half-heartedly and were punished by a goal scored by the Jablonec returnee from FK Moscow Čížek who aimed precisely with his instep to the left-hand post of Miller’s goal for the first time in the 26th minute - 0:1. The goal was scored after a simple action from the left-hand side of the Jablonec forward line. The Boleslav team obtained three corner kicks that, however, seemed very platonic till that time.
The Bosnian youngster in Jablonec’s service Haurdič pushed through Janíček in the penalty area of Boleslav and passed the ball to Lafata in front of the goal in the 47th minute. The very experienced marksman did not hesitate - 0:2.
Only the second goal conceded woke up the Boleslav players. Just in the 51st minute, Papadopulos headed a centre pass by Poláček from the left side under Jablonec’s crossbar and brought his team back in the play for points - 1:2. The fact that Boleslav did not obtain another one was bad luck for the home side and good luck for Jablonec.
Neither shooting Papadopulos nor Táborský returning the rebounded ball was successful in the 70th minute; afterwards, a lobbed shot by Nečas was cleared by Zábojník who headed the ball away from the goal line behind the goalkeeper. Courageous penetration by Kalina also resulted in no goal. And a hard shot by Kúdela did not find its way into the net either. The defence of Jablonec resisted many attacks of the Boleslav players only thanks to simple clearing kicks.
Even when the Boleslav players tried to overcome the Jablonec defence line tirelessly, they were unsuccessful. They lost the match in particular because of the fact that they wasted the first half and started to play football with the expected effort only when their backs were against the wall.
