In spite of the fact that the Boleslav players were the more lively side in first half, played almost entirely in front of their rival’s goal, they trailed in the corner count 2:3 and failed to score. The Bohemians played with Kincl as their lone striker, but Dobeš missed their best scoring chance in the 20th minute when he appeared unmarked on the penalty spot, however his shot was forced out for a corner kick. Boleslav's Rajnoch missed the target when shooting on goal and Sylvestre, Mendy and Kalina all had shots blocked by a pack of defending players and resulted to shooting from longer distances. Mendy won a free kick on the edge of the penalty area six minutes before the break when he was knocked down by Grznár as he prepared to shoot from a good position. However, Sylvestre only managed to drive his shot against the wall and waste a hopeful position.

The Boleslav players continued enthusiastically after the break; however, their endeavour slowly disappeared as the half went on.

Head-coach Hapal sent fresh forces into battle and tactically he had a hand in Řezníček's winner which came four minutes before the end of regular playing time. In the 86th minute, the substitute Řezníček diverted a centred pass by Kalina from the right to the far post of the Bohemians' goal after a misplaced throw-in from Procházka. Belaň tried in vain to save it with his right hand – 1:0.
